The American Hemerocallis Society (AHS) announced its daylily awards in late 2017. SADS reviews the winners with photos and a discussion. From the top award of the Stout Medal to the various types of daylilies awarded honors, come and discuss the winners with fellow daylily enthusiasts and share your comments about the winners.

A Gardening Topic: The GreenBridges Gardening Endeavor

Mary Moses, a native plant enthusiast from New Braunfels and past officer of the New Braunfels Native Plants Society of Texas, discusses the GreenBridges gardening endeavor with SADS. GreenBridges is an initiative with the purpose of creating safe passages for plants and pollinators across our nation. The ultimate result will be gardens across the country with each garden serving as a link in the chain of gardens providing safe movement for the plants and pollinators that help maintain healthy ecosystems. Come and learn how each of us through our gardens can help pollinators in our environment.

Daylilies: Let’s Start at the Very Beginning, a Very Good Place to Start

SADS members will discuss the earliest daylilies, what they looked like and where they originated in this program which will kick off a series of programs about the progression of daylilies from the earliest to the now modern form. These early daylilies were treasured for many reasons, come and learn why. What did they look like? Who grew them and why? SADS members begin a historical look at daylilies, don’t miss the start of it all. It’s Daylilies a History, Part 1.

Show Talk: Daylily Terms of Interest

It’s all about daylily terminology and using it. As part of preparations for the 2018 SADS Daylily Show in May, SADS will discuss those terms of interest which should be part of a daylily conversation. From “Ploidy” to “Teeth” and “Dusting,” what do the various terms mean so we can use them in our discussions of our favorite blooms.
